Summer Work Camp

The Summer Work Camp is a chance to make a big difference to the lives of Palestinians, learn about their barriers to education, and experience the beauty of Palestine through the eyes of fellow students.

Since 1981, Birzeit University has organised a two-week camp which gives international students and graduates the opportunity to work side by side with Palestinian students on community-oriented volunteer projects. As a volunteer, you will be involved in working in schools, municipalities or civil society organisations. You will have the opportunity to visit Palestinian villages, cities and refugee camps, even in the West Bank. You will be meeting with Palestinian families, political and community leaders, academics as well as exchanging experiences with Palestinian university students.

Accommodation is in huts or tents amongst trees on the campus and facilities are basic but adequate. Participants will be provided with a detailed program for the two-weeks prior to their arrival.

What’s in it for you?

Through this programme, you will be able to:

  • Boost your CV and develop your career
  • Learn new skills and discover new interests
  • Make new friends and make a difference

Cost

The camp will cost about £120, including food and accommodation. You will have to arrange for your flight and insurance separately. You will also need around £6/day for extra travel and personal expenses. A £30 application fee (made payable to Friends of Birzeit University) should also be enclosed with your application.
