Support Fobzu's Summer Appeal

In a year of anniversaries, support Palestine's future

100 years since the Balfour Declaration and the Palestinian people still lack their basic freedoms, among them their right to education. In East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, students and teachers have endured 50 years of movement restrictions, raids of universities and schools and arbitrary imprisonment. For ten years now, the blockade of Gaza has cut off Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza from each other. Israel continues to attack Palestinian academic life, denying entry and permits to visiting academics. Palestinian universities face a financial crisis and as a result the cost of tuition is rising.

Friends of Birzeit University has been raising the voice of Palestinian students and academics in the UK since 1978.

Our scholarships, with your support, funds students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to go to university. Through our endowed scholarships and our partnership with youth organisation Ahdaf, we enable students to complete their studies at universities in the West Bank and Gaza. Our Fobzu-Ahdaf scholars commit to their own education and organise projects that address the needs of their local communities. They’ve set up after-school clubs, organized reading groups, online learning resources and campaigns against domestic violence.

Since 1978, Fobzu has been raising the cause of the right to education for Palestinians across the country – within UK civil society, in schools and universities, in Parliament and with the government. This year, with your help, we want to continue providing scholarships so that more Palestinians have the opportunity to make the most of their talents. With your support, we will continue to make sure that the voice of Palestine’s next generation is heard in the UK.
